Let’s be thankful for oils this November

Let’s be thankful for oils this November

We’ve been talking about how our skin can be more dry, sensitive, and dull during these colder months. Luckily, there are many ingredients that can combat these cold weather skin changes, such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid. Even though it can seem a little counterintuitive, it’s also a great time to increase the treatment products in our routine since we typically have less sun exposure during these months - this is where our dear oils come in! They come in such a variety these days and are no longer just for locking in those hydrating ingredients (even though they’re still great for that too). That being said, we’re going to be covering the whole spectrum from treatment to topper as far as oils go, but keep in mind that these categories are not mutually exclusive.

Treatment Oils: oils containing active ingredients

Sunday Riley U.F.O. Ultra Clarifying Face Oil

Contrary to popular belief, oils are not only for dry skin types and this oil is a perfect example of an option that’s great for combination/oily skin types. It’s also great for targeting acne with a blend of anti-inflammatory oils, one of which is milk thistle oil. It also contains black cumin oil which helps to fade acne scars and prevent acne with its antibacterial properties. Not to mention that it also has the active ingredient salicylic acid to prevent clogged pores and acne.

Sunday Riley C.E.O. Glow Vitamin C + Turmeric Face Oil

While this oil does contain THD ascorbate to brighten, increase collagen production, and diminish dark spots, there are so many other amazing ingredients in this product as well. For instance, cold pressed red raspberry oil which helps to block UVA/UVB rays (should not replace SPF) and also contains loads of vitamin e to nourish the skin. This product also contains jojoba oil which mimics our skin's natural sebum to help regulate oil production.

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil

Trans-retinoic acid ester increases cellular turnover to help diminish fine lines, lighten dark spots, and prevent acne. Blue tansy oil on the other hand is anti-inflammatory and the camphor concentration in blue tansy oil has been shown to help repair the skin barrier. It also contains chia seed oil which is high in fatty acids to help moisturize the skin and gives that beautiful glowy effect to the skin.

Topper Oils: oils to lock in your humectant based skincare

Herbivore Phoenix Facial Oil

As we touched on before, this oil also contains jojoba oil which helps to regulate our skin's natural sebum production. This formula also contains powerhouse antioxidants coenzyme Q-10 which helps to prevent free radical damage and prevent premature aging. Meadowfoam seed oil also assists the skin in retaining moisture and keeps skin soft.

Sunday Riley Juno Antioxidant + Superfood Face Oil

This antioxidant packed oil contains fatty acids and essential amino acids to support the skin’s barrier function. It also contains wild carrot seed oil which is a natural source of vitamin a and blackberry seed oil which is a wonderful source of vitamins c and e.

Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil

This surprisingly non-comedogenic oil actually helps to regulate sebum production in the skin. It also is strongly anti-inflammatory and it has strong antioxidant properties. It’s perfect for evening use and for the colder seasons since it does have a bit of a heavier, but luxurious feel on the skin.
